MGR Building Group — Energy Rating Reports

What is Energy Rating Reports?

Energy Rating Reports are formal assessments that evaluate the thermal performance and energy efficiency of a building in line with national sustainability standards. These reports are a mandatory part of the building permit process for new homes, extensions, and major renovations.

The energy rating measures how well a building maintains comfortable internal temperatures with minimal artificial heating or cooling, using factors such as insulation, window glazing, orientation, thermal mass, ventilation, and building layout.

By meeting the required energy targets, property owners benefit from lower energy costs, improved comfort, and enhanced compliance with the National Construction Code (NCC) and local council sustainability requirements.

How MGR Building Group Assists with Energy Rating Reports

  • Coordination with accredited NatHERS energy assessors to prepare 6-Star (or higher) Energy Rating Reports.

  • Assessment of building envelope performance, including roof, wall, and floor insulation, window types, glazing ratios, and thermal bridging.

  • Analysis of site orientation, shading, ventilation, and zoning of spaces to maximise passive design benefits.

  • Reports submitted as part of the building permit documentation package to meet NCC Section J (Volume One) or Part 3.12 (Volume Two) requirements.

  • Support with value engineering or design adjustments to help achieve target ratings without compromising aesthetics or budget.

  • Improved energy performance leads to increased resale value, occupant comfort, and reduced environmental impact.
